Potomac Yard Metrorail Implementation Work Group (PYMIG) Meeting – Wednesday, May 9

The public is invited to the Potomac Yard Metrorail Implementation Work Group (PYMIG) meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., at City Hall, Sister Cities Conference Room 1101 (1st Floor), 301 King Street, Alexandria, Virginia. 

This meeting will provide Potomac Yard Metrorail Station project updates on the project design, specifically changes to the project scope. Additional information on the project scope is available here.

PYMIG is an ad-hoc committee consisting of community members and stakeholders. It serves as the primary forum for community engagement during the planning, design and construction of the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station. April 12, 2018 - WMATA Finance and Budget Committee Meeting 
April 10, 2018 - City Council Legislative Meeting
The Alexandria City Council and the WMATA Finance and Budget Committee approved raising the project budget $320 million.

In May and June 2016, City staff are providing updates on the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station project to interested civic associations and other stakeholders. You can view the presentation here.

May 11, 2016 - Community Meeting at the Durant Center  
The meeting focused on potential construction  impacts and ways to minimize or avoid those impacts.

April 18, 2016 - Community Meeting at the Cora Kelly Recreation Center
The purpose of the meeting was to inform the public about potential construction impacts and to answer questions from residents.

December 10, 2013 – City Council Work Session Presentation
City Council and City Staff discussed the progress of development, transportation projects, and open space projects in Potomac Yard.

September 21, 2013 - City Council Potomac Yard Tour and Briefing
City Council received a tour and comprehensive briefing on Potomac Yard issues.  The tour and briefing were open to the public.  Please see below for links to the information provided during the tour, as well as a video for the tour and briefing.

November 13, 2012 – City Council Work Session Presentation

April 19, 2012 – Potomac Yard Metrorail Station EIS Public Meeting
The Potomac Yard Metrorail Station EIS team presented an update on the draft EIS review process.


Community Outreach

The community has been involved throughout the planning and EIS processes. City staff will continue to provide updates to various neighborhood and civic associations, commissions, boards, and Council.

Following a public comment period and series of community meetings from April 3, 2015, through May 18, 2015, City Council formally considered the new station and its preferred location.  The City Council select of Alternative B as the preferred alternative permits the preparation of a Final EIS for approval by the FTA and NPS, after which the design and construction of the station can begin.

A public hearing as part of the EIS process took place before the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Board in April. 

On April 24, the City of Alexandria staff issued a report recommending Alternative B for the construction of the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station.  The staff report, along with the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) published on March 27, was the subject of eight public meetings and hearings prior to City Council's consideration on May 20.

A public hearing on the staff report was held before the Alexandria City Council on Saturday, May 16.
