Public Engagement

Public awareness and education are important to the City of Alexandria. There are multiple ways community members can learn about and provide feedback on the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station project, including attending ongoing Potomac Yard Metrorail Implementation Work Group (PYMIG), Board, and Commission meetings, as well as topic-specific community meetings and open houses.

Upcoming Events and Materials

September 4 – Board of Architectural Review Work Session on Potomac Yard Metrorail Station
6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
City Council Work Room, 301 King Street ( Map This)

The City of Alexandria will host a Board of Architectural Review (BAR) work session on the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station design in the City Council Work Room, adjacent to the Council Chambers. The public is invited to attend, view virtual tours of the proposed station design, and ask questions about the project design elements. The work session will be followed by the regularly scheduled BAR meeting at 7:00 p.m.

2019 EVENTS

July 16  Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Draft Virginia Water Protection (VWP) Permit Information Session and Public Hearing
The City of Alexandria requested the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) hold a public briefing to provide information about the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station's draft Virginia Water Protection (VWP) permit as part of the official public comment period. 2018 Events


December 15 – City Council Public Hearing Meeting at City Hall

December 6 – Planning Commission Monthly Meeting at City Hall

April 12 – WMATA Finance and Budget Committee Meeting 

April 10 – City Council Legislative Meeting at City Hall
City Council and the WMATA Finance and Budget Committee approved raising the project budget to $320 million at the City Council Legislative Meeting on April 10, 2018.

April 4 – Community Meeting at the Charles Houston Recreation Center
City staff provided project updates on the procurement process, funding, schedule, and next steps.


2016 Events

In May and June 2016, City staff provided updates on the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station project to interested civic associations and other stakeholders. You can view the presentation  here.

May 11 – Community Meeting at the Durant Center  
The meeting focused on potential construction impacts and ways to minimize or avoid those impacts.

April 18 – Community Meeting at the Cora Kelly Recreation Center
The purpose of the meeting was to inform the public about potential construction impacts and to answer questions from residents.

December 10 – City Council Work Session at City Hall
City Council and City Staff discussed the progress of development, transportation projects, and open space projects in Potomac Yard September 21 – City Council Potomac Yard Tour and Briefing
City Council received a tour and comprehensive briefing on Potomac Yard issues.  The tour and briefing were open to the public.  Please see below for links to the information provided during the tour, as well as a video for the tour and briefing.

City Council and City Staff discussed the progress of the Potomac Yard development. April 19 – Potomac Yard Metrorail Station EIS Public Meeting at Cora Kelly Recreation Center
