The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities offers the community a personal opportunity to honor a friend or loved one by adopting a bench at one of our parks. When you adopt, City Staff will install a personalized plaque on either an existing or a new park bench.

The City’s Waterfront Plan envision a new public plaza at the foot of King Street called Fitzgerald Square. The plaza encompasses the City owned properties of 1 & 2 King Street, and the existing King Street Park, totaling about one acre of land. When the Old Dominion Boat Club moves to Prince Street, the City plans to create an “interim” public space to enjoy until construction begins on the permanent park.
The City of Alexandria has awarded a contract to Environmental Quality Resources, LLC (EQR) for the construction of the Windmill Hill shoreline restoration and other related park improvements. The project also includes pedestrian-oriented improvements to South Union Street. Construction has begun and is anticipated to be substantially complete by March 2018 with an anticipated park opening in spring 2018.
