City of Alexandria Office of the Arts
Accepting Community Engagement Grant Applications
Deadline: December 16, 2018

The City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts is accepting applications for two new Community Engagement Grants – Microgrant and Creative Partnership Grant opportunities will support the goals and recommendations of the City’s approved Arts and Culture Master Plan.

Microgrants will be awarded up to $1,000, no cash match required. Artists 18 years and older can submit projects and/or programs that are free, and open to the public and benefit the City of Alexandria residents. Successful applications will demonstrate that the project supports community representation and cultural respect, encourage cultural diversity and/or enhance underserved communities, neighborhoods or populations of the City of Alexandria.  The Office of the Arts strongly encourages artists and artists teams to apply. Individual artists who are affiliated with organizations that have received Fiscal Year 2019 grant funding may apply for a Microgrant.  However, the Microgrant may not be used for a project that is fully or partially funded by the organizations previously awarded Fiscal Year 2019 grant.

Creative Partnership Grants will be awarded for $2,500, applicants will be required to provide $5,000 cash match.  Funding is for Alexandria nonprofit organizations or businesses to engage artists to create new art-centered projects in a variety of media which benefit the community.  Nonprofit organizations that have received an Office of the Arts grant for Fiscal Year 2019 are not eligible to apply.

The total amount to be awarded is $13,500.  The duration of the projects can be a maximum of 8 months, beginning as of January 1, 2019 and must be completed by August 31, 2019.  To request a link for a community engagement grant click here.
