Community Engagement Grant Applications - Microgrants and Creative Partnership Grants

The City of Alexandria is now accepting Fiscal Year 2020 Community Engagement Grant applications for Microgrants and Creative Partnership Grants. These Community Engagement grants are administered through the Office of the Arts.
Microgrants are available to artist(s) and community organizations for new or existing projects and/or programs that are free, open to the public, and benefit City of Alexandria residents. Applications will support community representation and cultural respect, encouarge diversity and/or enhance under-served communities, neighborhoods, or populations of the City of Alexandria. Microgrants will be awarded up to $1,000, no cash match required. The Office of the Arts strongly encourages artists and artists teams to apply. Arts organizations that have received Fiscal Year 2020 grant funding are not eligible to apply. Individual artists affiliated with arts organizations who received Fiscal Year 2020 grants are eligible, however, the Microgrant may not be used for a project/program that is fully or partially funded by the organizations that has been awarded Fiscal Year 2020 grant.
Creative Partnership Grants will be awarded up to $5,000. Funding is for Alexandria based businesses to engage artist(s) and/or arts organizations to create new art-centered projects in a variety of media which benefit the community. Businesses are required to engage/hire at least one artist. Applicant will be required to provide a 1:1 cash match. Artists and/or arts organizations that have received a Fiscal Year 2020 grant from the City of Alexandria are not eligible to apply, but may be considered as a partner.
The duration of the projects can be a maximum of 6 months, beginning in January 1, 2020 and must be completed by June 30, 2020.

The Office of the Arts’ arts grant program is designed to support artistic excellence in the City by assisting Alexandria-based arts organizations by providing affordable programs for the community to engage with the arts, and providing local artists with opportunities to create, perform, and present their works. Each year, approximately $170,000 in City funds are awarded on the basis of a competitive grant evaluation process and require a 1:1 cash match from the applicant.
