City of Alexandria Announces Summer Recreation Classes, Specialty Camps and Out of School Time Programs

For Immediate Release: March 22, 2021

The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities will offer a variety of summer classes and camps in Sports, Enrichment, Nature, Creative and Performing Arts, Exercise and Fitness, and Aquatics, in addition to the Out of School Time (OSTP) Modified Summer Camp. Summer classes for youth and adults will be offered with indoor, outdoor and virtual options and will be available for review online beginning Wednesday, March 24. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7 for City residents, and Friday, April 9 for nonresidents.

Programs will meet all health guidelines for staff, participants and spectators, including symptom screening; use of face masks; enhanced cleaning between activity periods; and physical distancing protocols specified for each type of program. To ensure participant safety and prevent the spread of COVID-19, indoor locations will have limited capacity.

OSTP Modified Summer Camp Eligibility & Pre-Registration Process

The OSTP Modified Summer Camp program is designed with limited capacity to ensure the safety of participants and prevent the spread of COVID-19. OSTP Modified Summer Camp programs for children entering first through sixth grades in fall 2021 will be available at recreation centers and school locations. An OSTP Modified Summer Camp for Middle School youth entering sixth through tenth grades in fall 2021 will be offered at one location. OSTP Modified camps are open to City residents only and are designed to meet the needs of essential workers (such as those in health care, retail, food services, government, etc.) who cannot work from home and will have limited options for child care. Priority will be given to families who qualify for financial assistance.

Applicants are required to verify eligibility by completing an OSTP Modified Summer Camp Pre-registration Eligibility Form. Beginning March 24, the form will be available online and printed forms will be available for pickup and drop-off at the following locations:
