Charles Barrett Recreation Center

Formerly named the Cora Kelly Recreation Center, City Council renamed the facility on Saturday, September 16, 2017 to honor the significant contributions made by Leonard Armstrong. For additional information, view Docket Item 16-6734.

  • Teens and Adults: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m. 
  • Seniors: Saturdays, 9 a.m - 12 p.m.

Lee Center

The Lee Center serves as the administrative offices for the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. Space is available for rentals including meetings, receptions, banquets, celebrations and awards programs. Auditorium ame­nities include sound system, stage lighting, piano, podium and microphone.

Facility Features: Exhibit Hall with Serving Kitchen, Meeting Rooms, Dance Studio and the Richard Kauffman Auditorium with seat­ing for 400.

The Registration & Reservation Office is open by appointment only, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 703.746.5414. 


Mount Vernon Recreation Center

Patrick Henry Recreation Center

  • indoor running or walking lanes
  • flex court with full size basketball, volleyball and Pickle Ball courts
  • multipurpose rooms 
  • dedicated arts and crafts, exercise and fitness and soft play rooms
  • access to a black box theatre, full-size gymnasium and an additional multipurpose room on non-school days

Due to the use of the former Patrick Henry Elementary School as a swing space for MacArthur Elementary School during the 2020-2023 construction period, some of the outdoor amenities at Patrick Henry Recreation Center are not yet completed. The completed amenities are a tot playground, an outdoor basketball court, an intermediate playground, and adult fitness equipment stations are in place and open to the public. The rectangular synthetic turf field with a coach-pitch baseball/softball diamond overlay, a school Kindergarten playground and a permanent parking lot with designated recreation center parking spaces is anticipated to be completed in the Fall of 2023.
