Sheriff Dana Lawhorne was honored to receive a special award from the George Washington Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (GWSAR). On October 6, leaders from the chapter visited the Sheriff’s Office to present the Silver Good Citizenship Medal to Sheriff Lawhorne in the presence of his senior command staff.
John Blair, who serves as the Chapter’s Public Safety Awards Chair, read the citation which included highlights from Sheriff Lawhorne’s 43-year law enforcement career and noted his many contributions to Alexandria, particularly during his four terms as Sheriff. Then Chapter President Thomas M. Roth and Vice President Richard Rankin presented Sheriff Lawhorne with the award given for “notable services on behalf of our American principles.”
Sheriff Lawhorne expressed his gratitude to the GWSAR Chapter for the award and also for their longtime support of law enforcement officers. The Chapter recognizes life saving actions and outstanding public service by presenting annual awards to Alexandria deputies and police officers.
