At its annual holiday lunch meeting on December 13 at Lena’s Oasis, the Del Ray Business Association (DRBA) presented Sheriff Dana Lawhorne and Investigator Victor Ignacio with Star Awards for their significant contributions to the Del Ray community.
Sheriff Lawhorne, who is retiring at the end of this year, received DRBA’s Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his decades of service to the residents and business people in Del Ray. During his 43 years of law enforcement service, he has aided the Del Ray community in countless ways, including providing logistical support for Art on the Avenue, responding to major crimes, offering crime prevention outreach, directing traffic in emergencies, and even serving as a fair and impartial judge in pie-tasting contests. A lifelong resident of Del Ray, Sheriff Lawhorne has worked closely with businesses and neighbors to help it become one of the most popular places to live and visit in the metropolitan region.
DRBA also recognized a Sheriff’s Office deputy, presenting Investigator Ignacio with the Star Award for City employees. Investigator Ignacio has worked closely with DRBA event organizers to ensure that special events like Art on the Avenue, the Turkey Trot and the Halloween Parade run safely and efficiently. He also uses his good relationship with the Latino community, particularly in Arlandria, to keep residents and workers informed about important safety issues and to help distribute food and services to those in need.
The Sheriff’s Office thanks DRBA President Lauren Fisher and members of its Board and Executive Committee for honoring Sheriff Lawhorne and Investigator Ignacio and for including the Sheriff’s Office in community outreach efforts like First Thursday.
