Nearly one hundred inmates at the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center attended the program on Thursday, January 23, 2014, and heard Dr. Wallace’s inspiring message of overcoming challenges and pursuing success. Drawing on her own experiences, Dr. Wallace encouraged the audience to achieve their dreams and not to be discouraged by those who seek to hold them back.

Dr. Wallace is currently teaching Business and Professional Communication to inmates as part of NOVA’s Open Roads partnership with the Sheriff’s Office which began in 2012. At last year’s MLK program, Dr. Jimmie McClellan, Dean for Liberal Arts at the Alexandria Campus, discussed civil rights history.
