American Correctional Association Reaccredits Adult Detention Center

The American Correctional Association’s Commission on Accreditation for Corrections reaccredited the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center and recognized the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office for its high quality management of the local jail.

2017 ACA AwardThe ACA accreditation focuses on all phases of jail operations, including administration and management, physical plant, institutional operations and services, and inmate programs. Alexandria received 100 percent approval on each of the applicable mandatory standards, according to the assessment team which conducted its on-site audit in September 2016.

The ACA presented the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office with an official Certificate of Accreditation during its recent winter conference. Technical Services Director Michele McCarty and Accreditation Manager Debra Defreitas formally accepted the award following a panel review with Commission members on Saturday, January 21.

With the ACA accreditation, the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center has maintained its “Triple Crown Award” from the National Sheriffs’ Association for achieving simultaneous accreditation from the ACA, the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Department of Corrections have also certified the Detention Center.
