King Street Park at the Waterfront

The City’s Waterfront Plan envision a new public plaza at the foot of King Street called King Street Park at the Waterfront. The plaza encompasses the City owned properties of 1 & 2 King Street, and the existing King Street Park, totaling about one acre of land. Now with the Old Dominion Boat Club moved to Prince Street, the City plans to begin construction on the permanent park in Spring 2018.

Formerly known as Interim Fitzgerald Square, the new park will encompass the current location of King Street Park and the land on either side once occupied by the Old Dominion Boat Club. The overall concept for Waterfront public spaces was approved in 2014, but it may be a decade or more before the planned flood mitigation infrastructure is in place and the permanent park can be constructed.

Now with the Old Dominion Boat Club moved to its new home a few blocks south, the City will begin construction on the permanent park in Spring 2018 for Alexandrians to enjoy.
