Parking in Old Town

To make your visit more pleasant, below is an overview of parking choices in Old Town Alexandria. On-street parking is available at meters and in free spaces with posted time limits. Meter parking is limited to two hours; meter feeding is prohibited.

COVID-19 Update - Starting Thursday, March 26:

  • The Market Square, Courthouse, and 220 N. Union Street parking garages will shorten hours of operation. These garages will close at 10pm Sunday-Thursday, and at Midnight on Friday and Saturday.
  • To limit close contact, all transactions will be via credit card only.
  • The Cameron/St Asaph lot, Henry/Patrick lot and Thompson's Alley garage remain open to parking 24 hours a day.  Payment can be made at the meter at each site.

Where to Park in Old Town Alexandria

Visitors to the historic district are encouraged bike, walk or take the Metrorail Yellow or Blue lines to the King Street Station and take the free King Street Trolley, or DASH or Metro buses. For DASH schedule information visit, For Metrobus schedule information, visit

Bicyclists may visit for the City’s Bikeways Map, which features the City's best on-street and off-road bikeways, as well as locations of grouped bicycle parking.

Many parking garages and lots are located conveniently in the Historic District. On-street parking is available at meters up to two or three hours (depending on location).   To ensure legal parking, read all posted signs before parking. Parking limits are strictly enforced.
