Vehicle Impound Facilities

This section is responsible for the storage and disposal of all vehicles impounded by the City. The Impound Facility processes approximately 3,000 vehicles per year. Vehicles not claimed by the owners may be either auctioned by the City or disposed of through a junk car program that is administered by the State of Virginia.

General Information

This section is responsible for the storage and disposal of all vehicles impounded by the City. The Impound Facility processes approximately 3,000 vehicles per year. Vehicles not claimed by the owners may be either auctioned by the City or disposed of through a junk car program that is administered by the State of Virginia. Location & Hours of Operation 

The Impound Facility is located at 5249 Eisenhower Avenue. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. The Impound Facility is closed all day Sunday, Saturday and all holidays. Fees continue to accrue on Saturdays and Sundays, but do not accrue on holidays. 

Claiming Your Vehicle 

To claim an impounded vehicle, you must present the following information: Proof of vehicle ownership (vehicle registration or title, or a notarized statement from the owner authorizing you to pick up the vehicle) Personal Photo Identification.

PLEASE NOTE: If your vehicle has been impounded but you paid NCC for delinquent parking tickets, you must do all three of the following before going to the Impound Lot to pick up your vehicle:

  1. Pay in full all tickets that are referred to NCC;
  2. Obtain a copy of an official receipt directly from NCC, and;
  3. Confirm that all other tickets not yet referred to NCC are paid in full. You can confirm this either at City Hall, Room 1510 (Treasury Division), or online at alexandriava.gov/Payments.

Please be sure to save yourself time and unnecessary problems at the Impound Lot by carefully following each of these steps before trying to reclaim your vehicle.

Impound Fees 

All monies owed to the City to satisfy the towing charges, any outstanding parking or non-moving violations tickets, and boot fees, are due when the vehicle is picked up. Cash is accepted for the exact amount owed. Visa and MasterCard credit cards are also accepted.

Unclaimed Vehicles 

After 40 days, all unclaimed vehicles will be disposed of through auction.
