Alexandria Teen Pregnancy Rate Declines
ACAP is pleased to announce that the teen pregnancy rate for the City is at its lowest in recorded history. Teen pregnancy in the City of Alexandria dropped 16% from 12.4 for every 1,000 girls ages 10-19 in 2019 to 10.4 in 2020. The continued improvement in Alexandria’s teen pregnancy rate reflects an unwavering dedication to reduce teen pregnancy through evidence-based approaches and strong alliances between City agencies and community partners. The positive improvements seen in recent years are influenced by the daily efforts of ACAP in partnership with Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), the Alexandria Health Department (AHD), the Teen Wellness Center (TWC), the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS), Alexandria Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, Alexandria Police Department, Alexandria Sexual Assault Center, Capital Youth Empowerment Program, the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria, Partnership for Healthier Alexandria, Community Lodgings, Healthy Families and Neighborhood Health.
