Our Mission Motors

The mission of the Alexandria Police Department is to provide competent, courteous, professional and community oriented police services.  We are committed to maintaining and enhancing a strong and productive partnership with the community to continue to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in all of Alexandria's neighborhoods.  We are dedicated to protecting life and property while assuring fair and equal treatment to everyone.

Alexandria maintains a modern, highly trained, technically skilled, energetic, diverse and well-equipped police department, with a current authorized strength of 320 sworn and 138 civilian employees. Our staff provides courteous, efficient and timely service to residents, visitors and businesses in our City.

The Alexandria Police Department has been internationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) since 1986 and was reaccredited in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2004 and 2007. This is a significant accomplishment for the men and women of the department. CALEA accreditation is a rigorous and difficult process that, if achieved, affirms the professional status of law enforcement agencies worldwide.

Alexandria Police Department Launches the APD Most Wanted and Cold Case Websites

On November 14th, the Alexandria Police Department launched two new web pages on their site. APD's Most Wanted was created so residents can assist in locating serious offenders who have fled the area to avoid arrest and prosecution. This page focuses on violent offenders who may be a threat to others. We will continuously update this page with new fugitives from justice. The APD Cold Case page will be used to gather investigative leads on cases that continue to be unresolved. Detectives are actively investigating several of the cases listed on the page. As the page grows, more cold cases will be added to include other violent offenses.

New Technology: Online Crime Mapping

The Alexandria Police Department has launched a new searchable online crime database through crimereports.com.  The crimereports.com Web site was developed to help residents visualize and understand crime in their communities. Through the Alexandria Police Department’s partnership with crimereports.com, residents will be able to search and view Alexandria crime data using an online Geographic Information System. To access this new application, please click here or click on the "Crime Mapping" link below.
