Operation Ceasefire Grant Program- OCGP

Operation Ceasefire is a focused deterrence program aimed at reducing gun violence through a coordinated approach that combines law enforcement, community engagement, and social services. Originally developed in Boston in the 1990s, the program has been implemented nationwide, including in Virginia. In Alexandria, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office established Operation Ceasefire in Fall of 2023,focusing on individuals and groups at the highest risk of involvement in firearm-related violence. Prosecutors collaborate with law enforcement to identify these individuals using crime data, past offenses, and ongoing investigations, while partnering with community organizations to provide support and alternatives to violence.
