Get ready to celebrate 10 years of Tons of Trucks. The City of Alexandria’s popular family-friendly event returns Saturday, September 26, with City vehicles, specialty attractions, hands-on activities and opportunities to meet the people who help build, maintain, serve, and protect Alexandria.

“Tons of Trucks is more than an event—it’s an opportunity for our community to connect with the people and equipment that help make Alexandria a great place to live, work, and play,” said Hashim Taylor, Director of the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities. “Celebrating 10 years makes this year especially meaningful, and we’re excited to welcome families to Chinquapin Park for a day filled with fun, discovery, and unforgettable experiences.”

Attendees of all ages can explore their favorite City vehicles, meet the staff who operate them, and learn about the important work they do throughout the community.

Celebrating 10 Years With More to Explore!

This milestone celebration will feature:

  • A Pop Culture Area featuring the “Diggin For Dollas” monster truck and a “Back to the Future” DeLorean, with photo opportunities
  • DJ dance party by DapperBeatz of the TopTierGroup 
  • A moon bounce and family-friendly activities
  • T&ES’s Paint-a-Plow, where visitors can help decorate a City snowplow
  • The 10th annual DASH Tons of Trucks bus wrap and photo opportunity
  • The debut of the City’s Mobile Art Lab’s new community-selected vehicle wrap, plus hands-on art activities
  • More City trucks and specialty vehicles, including fire trucks, police vehicles, refuse trucks, school buses, electric vehicles, and DASH buses
  • Meet Alexandria’s emergency preparedness teams, including the Community Emergency Response Team, Medical Reserve Corps, amateur radio volunteers, and other response partners
  • Virginia American Water will provide free water and show their “Water Buffalo” water storage tank
  • Booths featuring City resources such as ALEX311, Office of Human Rights, Office of Historic Alexandria, the Jerome “Buddie” Ford Nature Center, Alexandria Library, Office of Climate Action, and GO ALEX
  • Food trucks, giveaways, and other surprises

Complete the Event Passport for a Prize

Pick up a site map featuring the Tons of Trucks passport, visit participating locations around the event and complete the passport for a chance to receive a prize at the RPCA info tent while supplies last.

Free Admission and Sensory-Friendly Hour

The first hour of the event, from 10–11 a.m., will offer a lower-sensory environment for visitors who may benefit from reduced noise and activity. Attractions will remain available through 2 p.m.

Getting to Tons of Trucks

Visitors are encouraged to walk, bike, or use public transportation. Free DASH bus service and Capital Bikeshare are available.

  • Park and Roll: Ride a bike, scooter, or stroller to Chinquapin Park, and use the free onsite valet service in front of Chinquapin Recreation Center
