The Alexandria Community Remembrance Project has a student Remembrance Club at Alexandria City High School. Students who attended the pilgrimage to Montgomery, Ala. in 2022 established the club upon their return. Since then, ACRP has learned that the multigenerational aspect of our community project is our most cherished feature. In order to continue to offer our youth programming, in 2025-26 we launched a series of field trips that explore Alexandria’s rich African American history. We have refined that program for 2026-27 to offer four field trips and an opportunity to showcase what they learned and compete for a cash award.

The mission of the Remembrance Student Club is twofold. First, to deepen our young people’s understanding of our local shared history - from enslavement to civil rights activism in Alexandria. Second, to ensure young people feel empowered and are provided opportunities to become leaders in social justice, public history, and community advocacy.
