Recovery Month Banner

 

Since 1989, National Recovery Month has been a nationwide observance highlighting the benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery from substance use disorders. Millions of people across the country now identify as being in recovery, demonstrating that treatment is effective and that people can and do recover.

This September, the City of Alexandria’s Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) will host a series of events to honor and celebrate recovery in our community.


Recovery Month Celebration! – Wednesday, September 23

Ben Brenman Park (3 p.m. – 6 p.m.)

Wrap up Recovery Month with an afternoon of food, fun, and community spirit! Join us for music, family-friendly activities, and local resources that highlight the strength of recovery. Celebrate alongside individuals, families, and loved ones who make Alexandria’s recovery community so vibrant.

These events are designed to educate, celebrate, and strengthen our city’s recovery community while spreading the message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, recovery is possible, and no one walks the journey alone. They create spaces for healing, connection, and learning, while uplifting the voices of those with lived experience. Together, we honor the strength of individuals and families, reduce stigma, and highlight the many pathways that make recovery possible.
