Community, Experts and City staff to Continue Consensus-building Workshops to Determine Next Steps for Stream Improvement

For Immediate Release: September 13, 2022

Members of the community, experts and City staff will continue consensus-building workshops to collectively determine the approach to improve the health and function of Taylor Run and Strawberry Run. They participated in a consensus-building workshop on Saturday, Sept. 10 led by the Institute for Engagement and Negotiation (IEN) at the University of Virginia and co-hosted by the City of Alexandria’s Transportation and Environmental Services, Stormwater Management Division and the Department of Project Implementation.

The workshop included stakeholder discussion and feedback on potential alternative approaches for the Taylor Run and Strawberry Run projects. The goal of the consensus-building workshops is to reach a consensus approach for improving the health and function of these two streams in the City.

The next steps in the consensus-building phase will be to hold individual workshops with the Taylor Run workgroup and the Strawberry Run workgroup, each of which is a subset of the larger Consensus Building Group (CBG). There will also be one to two additional CBG meetings.

Members of the public may attend any of these meetings. Resident questions will be considered and addressed by the CBG during this process. Residents' questions may be submitted to an online portal on the consensus-building phase website for the CBG to consider. The staff looks forward to continuing the consensus-building process with the IEN, the Consensus Building Group and the community. Results of this Consensus Building will be brought to City Council for consideration.

Check the Stream Health Community Collaboration website for further details for the next meetings.
