ALL Alexandria
About ALL Alexandria
The City of Alexandria is committed to building a community where all residents feel valued, experience a sense of belonging, and have equitable access to the opportunities, resources, and services needed to thrive.
Through the All Alexandria Initiative, the City works to identify and reduce barriers that can limit participation, access, and opportunity. This work recognizes that residents may experience City programs, services, and institutions differently based on a variety of factors, including race, ethnicity, income, age, disability, language, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and other lived experiences.
Guided by the Office of Race and Social Equity, City departments collaborate with employees, residents, community organizations, and other stakeholders to strengthen policies, practices, and decision-making processes that advance equitable outcomes across Alexandria.
At its core, All Alexandria reflects a simple but powerful vision: every resident should have the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive in our historic, vibrant, and diverse city.
All Alexandria means embracing the full diversity of our community and ensuring that every resident has the opportunity to belong and thrive.
Why ALL Alexandria?
Alexandria is a vibrant and diverse community with many strengths. Yet, like communities across the nation, not all residents experience the same access to opportunity, resources, and quality of life.
Data consistently show differences in outcomes across a range of indicators, including education, economic mobility, housing stability, health, and civic participation. In some cases, these disparities exist within neighborhoods located only blocks apart. While Alexandria has experienced significant growth and prosperity, the benefits of that growth have not been shared equally by all residents.
These disparities do not arise from individual shortcomings. Rather, they are often influenced by historical and contemporary systems, policies, practices, and conditions that shape access to opportunity. Factors such as race, income, language, disability, age, geography, and other social identities can affect how individuals and communities experience City services, institutions, and opportunities.
Data helps identify where disparities exist, but data alone cannot explain why they occur. Understanding community experiences, listening to residents, and examining how systems operate are equally important to developing effective solutions.
The All Alexandria Resolution reflects the City's commitment to building a community where every resident can thrive. It recognizes that achieving equitable outcomes requires intentional action to identify barriers, improve systems, and ensure that City policies, programs, and services are responsive to the needs of Alexandria's diverse communities.
By combining data, community engagement, continuous learning, and collaborative problem-solving, Alexandria is working toward a future where all residents have meaningful opportunities to participate, contribute, and succeed.
Alexandria is a city where equitable outcomes, inclusive decision-making, and shared opportunity enable all residents and employees to thrive.
The All Alexandria Resolution commits the City to reducing barriers, improving access to opportunity, and ensuring that policies, programs, and services are responsive to the needs of Alexandria's diverse communities.
Through data-informed decision-making, community engagement, continuous learning, and cross-department collaboration, the City works to identify disparities, address root causes, and improve outcomes for all Alexandrians.
