Question: Please provide an update on the potential state reduction in Older Americans Act funding. (Mayor Wilson, Councilman Aguirre)

Response:

The potential shortfall in funding to the City is $18,915.80. This represents a 4.4% reduction in the total funding amount of $428,366. If the General Assembly passes a full budget, there will be no shortfall.

If the full budget does not move forward and the “skinny budget” stands as the operating budget, there will be an impact to programming provided to Alexandrians. A $18, 915.80 shortfall is equivalent to: 10 fewer residents being served in the congregate programs; or 2,750 home delivered meals in the meals on wheels program; or 591 hours in the homemaker services program; or a 4% reduction in the number of personal care services hours provided to help keep individuals in their homes versus needing nursing home care; or increasing the wait time for the 40 residents currently waiting for services.
