Question: What is the cost to enforce compliance with the leaf blower regulation? (Mayor Gaskins)

Response: The City of Alexandria is updating regulations on gas-powered leaf blowers to establish limits on noise levels and operating hours, reducing disturbances in residential and commercial areas. To support enforcement, the FY 2026 Proposed Operating Budget includes $130,000 to fund 1.0 Full-time Equivalent Noise/Disturbance Inspector position. Any associated overtime or training costs are expected to be nominal and can be absorbed in the Transportation and Environmental Services’ (T&ES) budget. This is in addition to 1.0 existing full-time inspector position. These positions will enforce this regulation, along with other enforcement duties.
