Response: Staff have evaluated the proposed Green Corridor Pilot (attached) and estimate that, depending on the specific projects and restoration efforts, costs would range from $35,000 to $75,000+ per acre or $315,000 to $675,000 for all nine acres or full implementation. This would include invasive species management, habitat restoration, biological diversification, and broader ecological improvements across approximately nine acres of City-owned property.
The low estimate would include activities such as targeted removal of invasives, limited site preparation, native plant seeding and limited planting with an expectation of natural regeneration, and light to moderate follow-up invasive control treatments. The high estimate would reflect a complete restoration approach that includes removal of dense invasives, extensive site preparation/earthwork such as clearing and grubbing as needed for planting and soil restoration, high density planting of native material, deer and other animal damage mitigation fencing, and intensive multi-year invasive retreatment and maintenance. It also factors in access to difficult areas such as steep slopes, proximity to water, and narrow work areas.
A more targeted approach focused on invasive species management is estimated at approximately $54,000 for the first year (about $6,000 per acre), based on recent work completed at Four Mile Run Park. Staff recommend a five-year phased approach, including initial treatment followed by four years of reduced-cost maintenance to ensure long-term effectiveness.
From a feasibility standpoint, this work is achievable but would require:
