Project Description
The City of Alexandria increased the capacity of the sanitary sewer system by installing new, larger pipes on four streets:
- Unit and 100 block of East Maple Street
- 200 and 300 blocks of East Oak Street
- 500 block of East Alexandria Avenue
- 300 block of Ashby Street
This work is being undertaken to help mitigate sanitary sewer backups that occur as a result of significant wet weather. View the full set of construction plans here.

Construction
Construction Update
The City of Alexandria has completed increasing the capacity of the sanitary sewer system by installing new, larger pipes on four streets and pavement restoration on the four streets below:
- Unit and 100 block of East Maple Street – Sanitary sewer and street restoration work have been completed.
- 200 and 300 blocks of East Oak Street – Sanitary sewer and street restoration work have been completed.
- 500 block of East Alexandria Avenue – Sanitary sewer and street restoration work have been completed.
- 300 block of Ashby Street – Sanitary sewer and street restoration work have been completed.

Pre-Construction Community Meeting
- Date: Thursday, January 9, 2025
- Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
- Location: City Hall, 301 King Street, Sister Cities conference room (1st Floor, Cameron Street side) and Zoom
- Description: City of Alexandria staff gave a presentation on the project featuring details about the project, including the project schedule, work hours, what to expect during construction, and how construction-related impacts will be managed. The presentation was followed by a public question-and-answer session.
