Please note, however, that doing so may limit our ability to provide you with updates or request additional information that could be important in completing a thorough investigation. - Does the Office of the Independent Policing Auditor review submissions for agencies other than the Alexandria Police Department?
No. The Office of the Independent Policing Auditor only has oversight authority for the Alexandria Police Department. Submissions related to other agencies or jurisdictions fall outside our scope and will be rejected. - Do I need to live in Alexandria to file a complaint or commendation?
No, you do not need to be a resident of Alexandria. However, the incident must involve an officer of the Alexandria Police Department in order for the submission to be reviewed. - Will every submission be investigated by the Independent Policing Auditor?
Not all submissions are investigated directly by the Independent Policing Auditor. In some cases, the Auditor may determine that the Alexandria Police Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is the appropriate body to conduct the investigation. In those instances, the Auditor closely monitors OPR’s work, reviews their findings for completeness, and prepares an independent report.
