Project Discovery Hosts Event for Graduating Seniors, Awards Scholarships
On June 9, Project Discovery hosted a Virtual Student Recognition and Year End Celebration for graduating seniors.
Project Discovery prepares and supports low income and first-generation college-eligible students to access opportunities in higher education. Through workshops and trips to college campuses, Project Discovery provides vital information about how to set and achieve educational goals.
The program is supported by a Project Discovery Advisory Board whose mission is to raise funds, promote community involvement and foster positive public relations.
During the event, board chair Bruce Milton presented opening remarks before introducing Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Gregory Hutchings, who delivered a keynote address to attendees. City of Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson presented scholarships to seniors, and Dr. Cherie Brown, a past board chair, presented alumni scholarships. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship.
