Sexual Assault Center Hosting Support Group for Teen Survivors

A DCHS CONNECT NEWS HIGHLIGHT

Circle of Hope Image

December 16, 2021--Alexandria’s Sexual Assault Center is hosting a series of in-person teen support group meetings called “Circle of Hope” for students aged 14 and up attending Alexandria High School who survived sexual violence.

Circle of Hope, is a sequence of six psycho-educational sessions aimed at educating teen survivors about ways to identify triggers, develop coping skills and set boundaries.

The group will use a curriculum developed by the Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs (WCSAP), a nonprofit organization committed to the elimination of sexual violence. WCSAP provides information, training and expertise to programs and individuals who support victims, family, friends, the general public and all those whose lives have been affected by sexual assault.

Beginning February 2, 2022, the meetings will be hosted on Wednesdays for six weeks during lunch from 11:19 a.m. to 12:33 p.m. Students can bring their lunch, and snacks will be provided. The last meeting will be held on March 9, 2022.

Registration is required. If interested in attending or referring a survivor, contact Shanice Smith at Shanice.smith@alexadriava.gov.
