Holiday Sharing Program Accepts Donations

A DCHS CONNECT NEWS HIGHLIGHT

November 30, 2021--The City of Alexandria invites the public to help make the 2021 holiday season brighter for some of the most vulnerable members of our community, including low-income families, foster children, seniors and adults with disabilities.

Through the Fund for Alexandria’s Child annual Holiday Sharing Program, residents or groups can sponsor an individual or a family by purchasing a gift card, or by making a donation online or via a check. Gift cards purchased by sponsors will be distributed by the staff and volunteers of the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS).

As stated in DCHS Community Impact Report for Fiscal Year 2021, 460 individuals and groups sponsored 410 families with a total of 989 children, 75 seniors or adults with disabilities, and 96 foster children by providing them with gift cards for the holiday season last year.

This year, 450 low-income families, 100 seniors and adults with disabilities, and 120 children in foster care have registered and qualified for assistance through the annual Holiday Sharing program.

The holidays can be stressful for those experiencing financial difficulties; however the Holiday Sharing Program has helped ensure a joyous holiday for Alexandria’s low-income families, struggling seniors, and children in foster care for more than two decades.

The community’s generosity always helps our families enjoy the holiday season by providing them with gifts and meals and ensuring that no Alexandrians are left in need during the season. This holiday, there are several ways to contribute:

  • Make a monetary donation online via a credit card i.e American Express, VISA, MasterCard, Discover or e-check.
  • Mail a donation via a check to: Holiday Sharing Program, 2525 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria, VA  22301. Make the check payable to The Fund for Alexandria's Child or to the DCHS Senior Fund.

All contributions are tax-deductible.
