January 13, 2022--Alexandria’s Center for Economic Support (CES) in collaboration with partners is hosting a series of personal finance and career-building classes during January and February.

The class series will be held virtually on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It is recommended to attend all classes.

Participants will receive a $25 gift card if they complete the first three classes, or they will receive a $75 gift card if they finish all six classes.

The classes are meant to help participants improve their financial life, manage budget, improve income stability, advance monetary education, and reduce and eliminate debts.

In the first virtual session on January 18, attendees will discover ways to take control of their economic life, set attainable financial goals and achieve them while creating a saving and spending plan.

The next three classes focus on how credit reporting works and methods to build a good score; ways to properly manage debt and repay it; and protection strategies to not fall victims to predatory lenders or identity thieves.

The final two workshops on February 15 and 22 are specialized in career building. Participants will learn how to properly present their skills and experiences to employers in resumes, cover letters and job interviews. They will also learn how to compare job offers, negotiate employee pay and understand the variety of benefits employers can provide.

View and download a printable flyer to learn more about upcoming sessions.

The classes are available to City of Alexandria residents. Space is limited and advance registration is required. To register, call 703.746.5700 or email brandon.hare@alexandriava.gov.

The financial classes are an outcome of a collaboration among Alexandria’s Center for Economic Support (CES), The Financial Empowerment Center, britepaths, United Way and Fairfax County.

The City of Alexandria Center for Economic Support (CES) provides programs and services in public benefits, community services, and employment and training. Visit CES’s official webpage to learn more about the center’s work.
