Building Blocks of Mobility: A Community Conversation on Economic Opportunity
Join the City of Alexandria’s Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS) for Building Blocks of Mobility, a targeted community conversation focused on understanding today’s economic conditions and how cross-sector partners can collectively shape pathways to stability and upward mobility.
Taking place on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Alexandria History Museum at the Lyceum, this RSVP-based convening will bring together community leaders, agency partners, and invited stakeholders for thoughtful discussion and shared learning. Attendees will hear from keynote speaker Craig Richardson, professor of economics, filmmaker, and founder of the Center for the Study of Economic Mobility at Winston-Salem University, along with a panel of local voices working to advance economic opportunity in Alexandria.
This event is hosted by the Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS) and co-sponsored by ACT for Alexandria. It was developed by a cross-sector workgroup of the Economic Stability Coalition, with participation from the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership; Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria; Alexandria Health Department; St. Paul’s Lazarus Ministry; Office of Performance Analytics; Office of Housing; Office of Planning and Zoning; Office of Aging; Office of Children and Youth; the Economic Opportunity Commission; Workforce Development Center; and ACT for Alexandria.
This convening is designed for professionals and partners engaged in advancing economic stability and opportunity in Alexandria. RSVPs will be reviewed to ensure alignment with the intended audience and space availability.
