CITY OF ALEXANDRIA IS THE 2023 WINNER OF EQUALITY NOVA AWARD

January 26, 2024: The City of Alexandria’s LGBTQ+ Task Force is the 2023 winner of Equality NoVa’s Equality Award. Equality NoVa is a grassroots membership organization that strives to improve the quality of life and meet the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ+) community and allies. Each year, Equality NoVa presents two Equality Awards; one to an individual and one to an organization that have demonstrated a record of improving LGBTQ+ equality.

The Alexandria LGBTQ Task Force is a space where LGBTQ+ people and allies gather quarterly to network, share ideas, and plan training and community events. The goal of the Task Force is to create safe and inclusive service provision to LGBTQ+ people in the City of Alexandria. The Task Force invites all people who believe in equity for the LGBTQ+ community to join! For more information and to join as a community member and/or service provider, please visit alexandriava.gov/LGBTQ. Also, please mark your calendar to attend the next Alexandria Pride Fair on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 3 p.m. – 6.pm.

“The Alexandria LGBTQ+ Task Force is thrilled to receive this award from Equality NoVa because it comes directly from the community of people we are working to support and uplift,” says Erika Callaway Kleiner, Staff Facilitator.

Chairperson Diana Maurer accepted the award, along with other members of the Leadership Team, and said, “We are incredibly honored to be recognized by Equality NoVa, a leader in our community for many years. We appreciate our ongoing partnership and look forward to continued work together to benefit the LGBTQ+ community! Since 2007 our Task Force has trained thousands of service providers to create safer and more inclusive spaces. The City's long-standing support for the Task Force demonstrates how Alexandria welcomes and values everyone. Building an inclusive environment is good for residents, businesses, and visitors.”
