Johnson shares, “I aim to change lives by helping constituents gain independence through increased income in a matched career and becoming a success. My work entails a customized plan and support for career retention.”

She has learned to utilize her strengths to develop a viable career as an author and educator. Work currently serves as an AVID tutor with Alexandria City Public Schools.

Watery Eyes: Reflections of a Muslim Woman

Released in 2025, Work’s poetry collection “Watery Eyes” explores themes of faith, identity, womanhood, and resilience through deeply personal and reflective poetry. Blending personal history with spiritual devotion, Work offers readers an intimate look into the emotional landscape of a Muslim woman navigating grief, love, cultural pride, and spiritual growth.

“Watery Eyes” reflects on experiences such as wearing the hijab, participating in mosque life, and exploring the complex intersection of faith and personal identity. The poems are both comforting and thought-provoking, ranging in tone from gentle to strikingly candid.

The Literary Titan Award recognizes books that demonstrate exceptional creativity and impact. Work’s recognition underscores the importance of amplifying diverse voices in contemporary literature. Her success is a testament to the talent and determination within the City of Alexandria community. “Watery Eyes” is available online and through the Fairfax County Public Library.
