Expanding Access to Mental Health Support with Online Screening
May marks National Mental Health Month, a time when communities across the country work to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage people to check in on their emotional well‑being. In Northern Virginia, that commitment is strengthened through the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Northern Virginia (SPAN), a regional coalition dedicated to promoting mental wellness and preventing suicide across all ages.
The City of Alexandria’s Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) is a proud partner in SPAN, helping ensure that residents have access to practical, confidential tools that support early intervention. Through this partnership, SPAN offers a free online mental health screening, powered by Aiberry, that allows individuals to privately explore concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, or other emotional challenges. The screening is not a diagnosis, but it provides a quick, accessible way for people to better understand what they may be experiencing and learn about next steps or available resources.
By making this screening available to the public, DCHS and SPAN reinforce a shared regional commitment to mental wellness. During National Mental Health Month, the message is especially clear: everyone deserves support, mental health matters every day, and help is always within reach.
Take a screening now. No sign-up is required, it’s 100% confidential, takes only a few minutes and provides free resources based on your results.
