Honoring Creativity: The Creative Aging Exhibition
The Creative Aging Exhibition, a collaboration between the City Adult Day Services Center (ADSC) and the Phillips Collection Museum of Modern Art, showcased the artistic talents and creative journeys of senior citizens who participated in the program. Located at the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C., the exhibition marked the culmination of months of artistic exploration that began in 2024.
Over the course of several months, participants engaged in meaningful creative encounters with Phillips Collection’s artworks, using them as a springboard for reflective storytelling and imaginative art making. Through guided sessions, the seniors not only expressed their personal narratives but also formed a community that embraced creativity and self-expression. These hands-on experiences allowed participants to create pieces through the ADSC program and were displayed at the museum, reflecting their interpretations and reflections inspired by the works they studied.
As the program drew to a close, the participants gathered at the closing reception to celebrate their collective achievements. The event offered a moment of recognition and pride for the artists, whose work highlighted the power or creativity to enrich lives and encourage connections among different generations. The Creative Aging Exhibition not only demonstrated the importance of artistic engagement in later years but also showcased the transformative impact that reflective and imaginative artmaking can have on individuals, cultivating a sense of purpose and accomplishment in the process.
