THE ALEXANDRIA COMMUNITY SERVICES BOARD CELEBRATES NURSES
June 28, 2023: The Alexandria Community Services Board (CSB), which provides behavioral health services within the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS), recognized nurses in honor of National Nurses Week.
Ana Lince, Medical Director, hosted a celebration with lunch to honor the CSB’s nurses for their significant contributions. With the hard work and dedication of the nursing staff, the CSB can meet its mission to provide compassionate and effective services that support self-determination, recovery, and resiliency for Alexandria residents affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.
“We appreciate all the work our nurses do, whether it is in a day program, in our psychiatric services, our Assertive Community Teams, our Residential programs, or our Medicated Assisted Treatment program,” shared Phillip Caldwell, director for the Center for Adult Services (CAS) and executive director of the CSB. “Alexandrians served are helped tremendously by all the expertise, compassion, and comfort shown by our nurses. Thank you, CAS nurses!”
National Nurses Week, held in May, is an annual celebration of the largest healthcare profession in America, with nearly 4.2M active licenses, according to the most recent Workforce Survey. The American Nurses Association (ANA) celebrates Nurses Week May 6-12 of every year. “National Nurse Week” was first observed from October 11 – 16 in 1954, marking the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s mission to Crimea. ANA’s Board of Directors expanded it to “National Nurses Week” in 1991, with the change to May dates to mark the May 12 birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
The CSB board is a group of 12 volunteers appointed by the Alexandria City Council. The CSB oversees the use of public funds to provide mental health, developmental disability and substance use treatment services through DCHS.
