VIDEO | Empowering Adults to Support Teens: Youth Mental Health First Aid Training with Dr. Temi O. Aregbesola
In a world where teens are facing increasing mental health challenges, knowing how to recognize the signs of crisis and offering support can make all the difference. Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is an essential evidence-based training designed to equip adults with knowledge and tools needed to help adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis, or even just struggling silently.
This comprehensive 8-hour training course is led by Dr. Temi O. Aregbesola. She is a passionate mental health educator who is committed to building stronger and safer communities. This full-day training is interactive and engaging, providing those who attend with a deeper understanding of adolescent development and mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, substance use, eating disorders, ADHD, and even more complex challenges such as psychosis and disruptive behavior disorders.
Participants learn to apply a practical five-step action plan (ALGEE) that can be used in both crisis and non-crisis situations. The training doesn’t teach participants to diagnose or treat, but rather how to offer initial support and connect young people with appropriate resources and possibly treatment.
YMHFA is designed for anyone who regularly interacts with youth such as parents, guardians, teachers, coaches, school staff, social workers, clergy, neighbors, etc. Whether you are on the front lines as an educator or simply an individual who cares about teens in your community, this course provides essential tools to respond with empathy, confidence and effectiveness,
The Youth Mental Health First Aid course is so much more than a training. This course is an investment in our young people’s well-being and in the strength of our communities. Being prepared to recognize the warning signs and respond early can truly be lifesaving.
