Nominate an Alexandria Centenarian by July 30 for Special Recognition

July 9, 2021--The City of Alexandria in collaboration with the Successful Aging Committee invites nominations to recognize the experiences and achievements of Alexandrians who have lived a century or longer. 

The honorees have the option to be included in a slide-show during a National Centenarian Day presentation at the September 28 City Council meeting. In addition certificates honoring lifetime achievements and Alexandria recognition coins will be sent to honorees by mail. 

To be eligible, residents must be 100 years or older by December 31, 2021. To participate or submit a nomination, complete an application and social history form by July 30.  

Older adults, including the estimated 100,322 centenarians living in the United States, faced significant challenges during the pandemic, such as isolation and separation from friends and family. Centenarian Day is an opportunity to celebrate the resilience and life experiences of these Alexandrians.  

The Successful Aging Committee includes representatives from Senior Services of Alexandria, St. Martin de Porres Senior Center (Catholic Charities), the Charles Houston Senior Center (Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority) and the City’s Division of Aging and Adult Services and Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities.
