Park & Recreation Commission to Hold a Public Hearing on Proposed Text Amendment to Public Open Space Zone

For Immediate Release

The Park & Recreation Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, April 20 at 7 p.m.at Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe St.) to discuss the proposed text amendment to the Public Open Space zone. If you are unable to attend the public hearing, comments will be accepted by mail or email until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Please mail written comments to RPCA, ATTN: Ana Vicinanzo, Project Manager., 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Following the public hearing, the Park & Recreation Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting.

The proposed zone text amendment will improve the implementation of typical recreational facility and safety improvements while increasing the efficiency and processes of approved plans. The proposed amendment supports the City Council 2022 Community Priority to Support Youth and Families by improving the City’s ability to implement community-based plan recommendations and the City’s goal of providing safe and equitable access to facilities and services.

The Park & Recreation Commission will receive public comment on April 20, and provide a recommendation to the Planning Commission and City Council. For additional information, visit the Public Open Space Zone Text Amendment project website.
