National Fentanyl Awareness Day serves as a call to action, bringing together businesses, nonprofits, schools, and government agencies to combat the deadly risks posed by illicit fentanyl and counterfeit prescription medications.

A significant portion of teens remain unaware that fentanyl is often used to produce fake pills that are sold on social media and in local communities. With more young people turning to self-medication to cope with stress, this lack of awareness can have tragic outcomes. By coming together to educate and take action, we have the opportunity to prevent these fatalities.

The City of Alexandria and the Opioid Treatment Program are hosting the fourth annual National Fentanyl Awareness Day on Tuesday, April 29, at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center. The event will feature education, demonstrations, treatment information, health resources, free distribution of Naloxone overdose medication and test strips for fentanyl and other drugs. The Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA), Alexandria Health Department, Opioid Work Group, and staff from Adult Central Intake will be in attendance to support awareness efforts. Please join us to help friends and loved ones prevent further tragedies.
