Construction on East Abingdon Drive North of Slaters Lane to Begin August 18

Construction on East Abingdon Drive north of Slaters Lane is scheduled to begin August 18, weather permitting. The project is expected to last until early October. The work hours for the project will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

During construction hours, East Abingdon Drive will be closed between Slaters Lane and the George Washington Parkway, and the northbound parkway lanes will be accessible via a right turn from westbound Slaters Lane. Outside of construction hours, one lane on East Abingdon Drive will be open to traffic.

The sidewalk and Mount Vernon Trail access point north of Slaters Lane will be closed for the duration of the project. In addition to the closures, the WMATA bus stop will be temporarily relocated to the south side of the East Abingdon Drive and Slaters Lane intersection, and parking will be prohibited on Slaters Lane adjacent to 615 Slaters Lane.

People walking and biking through the area are encouraged to use the Mount Vernon Trail to avoid the detour and sidewalk closures.

This work is part of the Mount Vernon Trail Improvements at East Abingdon Drive project to enhance trail access in the area. Additionally, the City is working on extending the trail connection through the East Abingdon Drive Bike Lanes project.
