For Immediate Release: August 14, 2025

On August 13, 2025, Zsavon Gionte Walters, 30-years-old, was found guilty by an Alexandria jury of two felony charges: Malicious Bodily Injury and Hit and Run Causing Personal Injury to Another. The charges were related to Walters’ actions on October 4, 2023, when he intentionally drove a moving truck onto a sidewalk where pedestrians were present in the Parker-Gray area of Old Town. In doing so, he struck and ran over a 15-year-old Alexandria resident.

The evidence presented at trial established that shortly before 3 p.m., Walters was driving a rented moving truck in the area near the incident location. According to eyewitness testimony as corroborated by surveillance footage, the vehicle could be seen circling blocks, driving the wrong way down one-way streets, and stopping on the road for long periods. Ultimately, Walters drove the wrong way down Montgomery Street, turned and made a U-turn, and intentionally drove onto a sidewalk where four pedestrians were present. The pedestrians began to run to avoid being struck by the moving truck. The victim could hear the roar of the truck as it sped towards him, and he ran to get away. He was ultimately struck, and his legs were run over by the truck in the street. The victim had to be transported to the hospital by medics where he received medical attention for the wounds present on his arms and legs.

After striking the victim, Walters made yet another U-turn and drove the wrong way on a one-way street toward the victim’s location. The truck ultimately sped off. Police soon spotted the truck and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Disregarding the police emergency signals, Walters drove down to Potomac Avenue, turned onto Mainline Boulevard, and ultimately drove onto the property of George Washington Middle School. While on school property, Walters drove recklessly and at a high rate of speed while students were outside on the school fields. The school resource officer attempted to stop the truck, but it drove off. Again, to evade police capture, Walters continued driving at high rates of speed and ran a red light.

The truck was next located abandoned in the 200 block of the Eisenhower Connector. From the paperwork located in the vehicle, police were able to develop and investigate persons of interest.  Thorough investigative efforts, such as a review of surveillance footage, financial records, Lyft records, and cell phone call detail records, Walters was identified as the perpetrator of these crimes.

After two days of testimony, the jury returned verdicts in this matter on August 13, 2025. Walters will be sentenced on October 30, 2025.

The case was investigated by the Alexandria Police Department, with Detective Lemar Gardizi serving as the lead investigator.  Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Maana K. Parcham and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Michelle R. Gruber prosecuted the matter on behalf of the Commonwealth.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter said: “I would like to thank the Alexandria Police Department for it’s thorough and professional investigation of this matter. I would likewise praise the members of the jury, who thoughtfully considered the evidence and returned a just verdict. My office will be seeking a significant sentence of active incarceration in this matter, both to hold the defendant accountable for his violent actions as well as to deter others from committing similar crimes.”

The defendant is incarcerated in the William G. Truesdale Alexandria Adult Detention Center pending his sentencing.
