Alexandria Inmate Dies at Area Hospital

This morning an inmate in the custody of the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office died at Inova Fairfax Hospital while being treated for chronic medical issues.

Ricardo Roberts, a 60-year-old Alexandria man, had been in custody since December 24 and was being held without bond on multiple counts of violation of a protective order. He had been at Inova Alexandria Hospital for medical care since December 31 before being transferred early this morning to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he died at 5:09 a.m.

Because this is an in-custody death, police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct investigations as required by law. The Sheriff's Office has made all required notifications and, consistent with our policy, will conduct an internal review to ensure our policies and procedures were followed.
