Empowering Alexandria Youth- 2026 Call for Employers for the Summer Youth Employment Program
As summer approaches, Alexandria youth are preparing for another exciting opportunity to gain real-world work experience, build professional skills, and explore career pathways through the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) – back for 2026 and better than ever.
A Paid Opportunity with Purpose
The 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program will run for six weeks, from Monday, June 22 through Friday, July 31. Designed for eligible City of Alexandria residents aged 14 to 21, SYEP provides young people with meaningful paid work experience in a range of industries and workplaces.
Proven Impact
Building on the success of the 2025 program, which served 171 youth with structured, paid placements and meaningful skill-building opportunities, the 2026 SYEP continues its mission to support workforce readiness and economic mobility for young people across Alexandria.
The SYEP 2025 Annual Report highlights strategic program enhancements including tailored curriculum, expanded career exposure activities, and stronger youth voice in program design. These highlights are all aimed at strengthening both participant outcomes and employer partnerships. Youth participants reported greater confidence, real-world experience, and professional networking opportunities, while local employers contributed to cultivating a future-ready workforce.
SYEP’s focus on professional soft skills, career exposure, and mentoring prepares young people not just for summer work but for long-term success in school, work, and life.
