City of Alexandria Hosts Free Shredding Event for Earth Month
In honor of Earth Month and the end of tax season, the City of Alexandria’s Resource Recovery Division will host a free shredding event for residents on Saturday, April 18. Residents are invited to bring eligible materials to the parking lot of 3871 Mt. Vernon Ave. (MOM’s Organic Market) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for secure, sustainable shredding and disposal.
Accepted materials include:
- Documents (with or without staples or paperclips)
- Financial documents
- Legal documents
- Address books
- Sensitive mail
- Medical records
Materials not accepted include:
- Office supplies (e.g. staple removers or hole punchers)
- Batteries
- Hanging folders
- Electronics
- Microfiche
- 3-ring binders
- Plastic report covers
- Binder clips
- Acetate covers
City residents will be able to watch the shredding process via a monitor mounted on the side of the shredding truck. All shredded materials will be securely recycled after the event.
