City of Alexandria Begins Seasonal Repaving and Street Maintenance

On Monday, April 20, the City of Alexandria’s Department of Transportation & Environmental Services (T&ES) will resume seasonal paving and street maintenance operations, expected to run through November 2026.

The City is responsible for the maintenance and repair of sidewalks, alleys, and more than 561 lane miles of road. Each year, the City of Alexandria resurfaces approximately 50 lane miles of road and completes repairs to concrete curbs and gutters, followed by upgrades to curb access ramps to ensure they are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The following streets are scheduled for resurfacing and repair during the initial phase of the program:

  • Holland Lane
  • Jamieson Avenue
  • Peyton Street
  • LaVerne Avenue
  • West Bellefonte Avenue
  • Hillside Terrace
  • Summit Avenue
  • Old Dominion Boulevard
  • Rapidan Court
  • Holmes Run Parkway
  • Hawthorne Avenue
  • Hatton Court
  • East Abingdon Drive
  • Fayette Street
  • Peachtree Place
  • West Abingdon Drive

Residents whose streets are scheduled for resurfacing receive advance notice of paving work – typically by displayed project signs and/or door hangers. Temporary “No Parking” signs will also be posted before work begins. Please be sure to observe these signs to avoid tickets and potential towing of vehicles.

Normal paving operation hours are between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with some select work conducted overnight to accommodate heavily traveled roads. Heavy equipment, which may be noisy at times, will be used during paving activities. During paving hours, access to the affected street will be limited, but workers will allow for local traffic to pass through for driveway access. City staff will be on site managing the project, and at the end of each workday, roads will be fully open to allow for overnight parking and traffic.

The City of Alexandria is committed to roadway safety and proactively improving the infrastructure. Visit alexandriava.gov/Potholes for additional information about the City’s street resurfacing program. For questions about major street resurfacing, please use Alex311.
