Sheriff’s Office Earns Advanced Law Enforcement Reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies

Sheriff Sean Casey is proud to announce that for the 11th consecutive time, the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office (ASO) has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Sheriff’s Office received its formal reaccreditation for Advanced Law Enforcement during CALEA’s conference in Omaha, NE, in July 2026.

Additionally, ASO received an enhanced Certificate of Meritorious Accreditation. This award recognizes agencies that have been continuously accredited for 15 years or more. The Advanced Law Enforcement Program, according to CALEA, “is specifically designed for elite organizations striving to demonstrate professional excellence within a comprehensive range of operational and administrative functional responsibilities.”

“The Alexandria Sheriff's Office is steadfast in its commitment to excellence in the public safety services we provide to the City of Alexandria. This CALEA reaccreditation reflects the exceptional professionalism, accountability, and dedication our deputies and professional staff demonstrate every day in service to our community. I am incredibly proud of this agency and the unwavering commitment of every member to upholding the highest standards of public service. Together, we will continue striving to deliver the highest-quality public safety services to the community members of Alexandria,” Sheriff Sean Casey said.

As part of the reaccreditation process, CALEA conducted an on-site assessment over three days to evaluate the Office’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services related to law enforcement. In addition to the on-site assessment, CALEA has evaluated the Sheriff’s Office annually over the past four years on its compliance with more than 300 applicable standards.

The Sheriff’s Office is also accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA) and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) and is certified by the Virginia Department of Corrections. By holding CALEA, ACA, and NCCHC accreditations simultaneously, the Sheriff’s Office has also been recognized with the Triple Crown Award from the National Sheriffs’ Association, a distinction that fewer than 50 agencies nationwide have earned.
