Alexandria Police Department Investigates Shooting Incident

 

(*UPDATE 5/16 3:30 p.m.*):: The decedent has been identified as Jordan Poteat, 18, a non-city resident.

In connection with this incident, Mikell Morris, an 18-year-old non-city resident, and two juvenile males, both 15 years of age, have been charged with carjacking. No further details on the juveniles are available. 

This matter is still under investigation. ALEXANDRIA, VA. – The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Friday, May 13, 2022, that left one dead, and another seriously injured.  

The initial call for service was received at approximately 2:57 p.m. for a shots fired call in the 2300 block of Richmond Highway.  

Upon arrival, police discovered one male deceased and a second male with a gunshot wound in serious condition. 

While the investigation is still ongoing, initial evidence suggests that the incident began as an alleged carjacking incident involving five individuals.  All persons involved in this incident have been accounted for and there is no threat to the public.
