The Alexandria Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting that resulted in a fatality at a 5101 Maris Avenue.

On August 12, at approximately 10:46 p.m., Alexandria Police officers responded to 5101 Maris Ave. for a call for service. Upon arrival at the building, officers were met in the stairwell by an adult male armed with a firearm. The encounter resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The subject was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The investigation is being conducted by the regional Critical Incident Response Team.  

There are no reports of any other injuries related to the incident.
