Officers of the Alexandria Police Department’s Neighborhood Initiatives Unit Arrest Murder Suspect Wanted by Loudoun County

Alexandria, VA. - As officers of the Alexandria Police Department's Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU) were on patrol Wednesday, October 23, 2024, they located a man wanted for murder by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. At approximately 6:01 p.m. in the 4100 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue, officers recognized the suspect from a law enforcement be-on-the-lookout (BOLO).

Marlyn Medrano Ortiz, 18, of Alexandria, Virginia, wanted on charges of 2nd Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the commission of a felony out of Loudoun County, was apprehended.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing.

"I want to thank the officers of our NRU for their diligence and observance while on patrol. They used good intelligence and relied on their knowledge of the areas they patrol to apprehend a violent criminal. We thank them for their dedication to keeping our City safe," said Assistant Chief of Police, Easton McDonald.

The NRU is an extension of the Alexandria Police Department’s dedication to our community policing philosophy, in that NRU officers possess the skills necessary to build relationships, solve problems, and enforce laws; while focusing on quality-of-life issues and community concerns. NRU officers accomplish this daily by being proactive and community-driven.
