Alexandria, VA – The Alexandria Police Department (APD), in collaboration with the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD), has arrested 35-year-old Jeffrey Gary, a resident of Fairfax County, in connection with assaulting a woman on Friday evening near the Braddock Metro Station. Gary faces charges of Assault & Battery and Abduction according to Code of Virginia (18.2-47), filed by the Alexandria Police Department.

During a joint news conference today, Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire was joined by Deputy Chief Daniel Alvarez of the Metro Transit Police Department, who announced additional charges of Sexual Battery and Abduction with Force against Gary, related to a separate incident that occurred earlier the same evening at the Potomac Yard Metro Station.

On Friday at approximately 9:41 p.m., a woman in her mid-30s was walking in the 1100 block of Madison Street after exiting the Braddock Metro Station when she was approached from behind by the suspect. He grabbed her and wrestled her to the ground, attempting to restrain her. The victim bravely resisted, shoved the suspect away, and ran to safety before calling 911. No weapon was used in the assault.

Alexandria officers responded swiftly and immediately launched a coordinated investigation with Metro Transit Police. Through the strategic use of technology, including APD Public Safety cameras, and close coordination with regional law enforcement partners, detectives were able to identify the suspect. With the assistance of Fairfax County Police, an early morning search warrant was executed, and Gary was taken into custody.

“Acts of violence —especially those targeting law-abiding residents—leave a deep psychological impact on the community and are absolutely intolerable. To the victims, we offer our unwavering support: you are not alone. We commend the courage of those who have come forward, allowing us to remove a dangerous individual from our streets. To the person responsible, your actions were cowardly, and our pursuit of justice will be swift, focused, and unrelenting," said Chief Tarrick McGuire.

Investigators have confirmed that two separate encounters involving the suspect occurred on the same evening—one at the Potomac Yard Metro Station, and one near the Braddock Metro Station.

Between the two incidents, Jeffrey Gary now faces four charges:

  • Assault & Battery
  • Sexual Battery
  • Two counts of Abduction with Force (Code of Virginia 18.2-47)

He is currently being held without bond.

A sexual assault advocate has been assigned to support the survivor throughout the legal process, with access to counseling and other supportive services.

Law enforcement encourages anyone in the DMV region who believes they may have encountered Jeffrey Gary or been the victim of a similar incident to contact their local police department or call the Alexandria Sexual Assault Center’s 24/7 hotline at 703-683-7273.
